Letters from the Sky
I'm pretty certain that anyone who animates has cut their teeth animating song lyrics. It's almost a rite of passage. When I decided to do my first attempt, I knocked around a few ideas, but then this song popped into my mind and I got the idea in a flash. I love how it came out. It was a lot of work. Fun work, but work.
The Red Ball
A staple in the world of animation is the pendulum swing. An apparently simple item that's tougher to animate than it seems. When I decided to do one, I knew it had to be different and grandiose. I was challenged by my wife to use colors outside of my normal palette, so I chose a song that would fit the more pastel vibe I would be following.
Back in high school, I was a big fan of stick-fighting animation videos. I wanted to do something similar using a form of stop-motion-esque animation while focusing on shapes (mostly) to tell the story of this heroine. My wife did the voice of the character. We had a lot of fun with this project.
House of Cards
I love this show. Love everything about it. When I first saw this ad on YouTube, it became my favorite watchable thing for days. When I decided to do a rotoscoping experiment, there was no other video even in the running that could compare with this. It took a long time, but I really wanted to capture the spooky feel of the show and how it makes me experience the best kind of uncomfortable.
